There are many different ways that you can break free from a regular job and become self sufficient, but the techniques that I am using, and the methods I will talk about here, will give you a passive income, meaning that the work that you do now will continue to pay off after the work is done, the aim is to end up with a steady stream of income that continues to come in long after you have completed the work. Many people find it hard to believe that these real work at home jobs exist, as it is so ingrained in our psyche that you go to work for a week, and you get paid for the work you did that week. For this reason, many will try and convince you that this is a pipedream. After all, if it were possible, why isn’t everyone doing it?

The answer to that question is simple; it is hard work to set it up. People seem to translate the term “passive income” as meaning “getting paid for doing nothing”, and that is the ultimate goal, but there is a long road to travel before you get there. This is the reason that people fall for so called “money making ideas” that promise to hand everything to you on a silver platter just by sending them $67.95. This is good news for anyone that is serious about wanting to succeed with this type of business model. If you are persistant and put in the work, you will eventually get there, and you will be met with minimal competition (assuming you choose the right niches), because the majority of the world is lazy.

Creating this type of lifestyle online consists of five steps, each one is of critical importance. The five steps are; niche selection, property building, content creation, promotion and monetization. Your goal is to have web properties that are considered to be an authoratative source of knowledge on your chosen topic. Considered authoratative by who, I hear you ask? Well, by the search engines primarily, as it is the search engines that will direct people to your property. What’s more, it’s really just one search engine that we need to primarily concentrate our efforts on. Yep, you guessed it, Google. The Big G. Google is the place that the majority of Internet users go when they are looking for. They are so popular, that Google is now considered a verb, rather than a brand name. We’ve all done it. You want the phone number of that new pizza shop? Just Google it. Your kids thrown you a curveball with a homework question? Get them to Google it. Because of Googles popularity, it is imperative that we understand the way it works in order to succeed, and I will be discussing this in much greater depth in posts to come. Once you have an authoratative property, you will naturally get a lot of visitors, and there are many different ways that you can turn that traffic into money.

Make Money From Home – Step One – Niche Selection

So back to our five steps, and I will only be touching on these briefly today, and expanding on them in days to come. Firstly, niche selection. If you are going to create a web property with the hope of attracting visitors who will convert to money, you need to be focussed in your approach. This very first step is the place where most people slip up, and if you get this step wrong, it is going to be an uphill battle to make anything of your efforts. A personal blog that is about anything and everything may seem like the most amazing thing to you, but there is no focus, and even if people do end up on your site, they will be people who are surfing around, looking for anything and everything. They are lsort of like the people that come into the store because they’re waiting for the bus, they have no intention of buying anything, and no reason to be there, they are just killing time. If, however, you create a very focussed website about one particular topic, then the people that you will attract will be people that are interested in that topic, and it’s these people that will convert to money. Choosing a good topic (or niche, or keyword), is a delicate process. It needs to be a topic that is somewhat popular, otherwise, even if you do become an authoratative source, you are not going to get many visitors. It also needs to be a “paying” topic. This means that people must be willing to spend money on the niche that you have selected. Finally, it needs to be a topic that is not too competitive, particularly when you are just starting out. I mentioned earlier the folly of trying to get rich off this site, which is all about making money from home. The reason I said that is because the competition for this niche is fierce, and it would be a great deal of work for me to get anywhere worthwhile with it.

Make Money From Home – Step Two – Property Building

Step two is site creation, and this is all nuts and bolts stuff, which I will touch on, but I am not an expert on. There are plenty of resources available for people who want to learn how to buid there on websites, and there is blogging software available that automates a lot of the tedious work. That said, you don’t even need to build your own property from scratch. There are places where you can go that allow you to build quick and easy pages about your topic with very little technical knowledge needed. We will look at places like Hubpages and Infobarrels as well, as these are tools that can be of great benefit to the beginner, a great way to get your feet wet before venturing out on your own.

Make Money From Home – Step Three – Content Creation

Then comes content creation. This is the bane of my existance. You may be mistaken for thinking that I enjoy writing, given the length of this post, and there are topics, like this, that I can quite easily ramble on about forever. Unfortunately, the topics that you will end up writing about will quite often be boring, tedious, and even gross at times. It’s a necesary evil, however. The Internet is basically the worlds biggest library, and if you want to be a part of it, you are going to need to do some serious writing. Either that, or you are going to be spending a lot of money to get people writing for you. Either way, it’s going to cost you time or money, it’s up to you to decide which one you can afford more of. Another skill that you are going to need is the ability to research. Many of the topics you will write about, you will have no idea about, so it’s important to have a firm grasp on researching information so that you can become an authority on it. We will also be discussing this in much greater length in posts to come.

Make Money From Home – Step Four – Promotion

So, you’ve chosen your niche, you’ve built your site, and you’ve written your content, but no one is coming? That’s because you haven’t done any promotion yet, and the search engines have no idea of your importance. As far as Google is concerned, the Internet is a big popularity contest, and popularity is measured by how many links are pointing at your site. It’s not only the number of links that are important, however, it’s also the quality and relevance of those links. If you have a website on kettles, and you get a heap of links from other websites about motorbikes, those links aren’t going to be worth much, because the two sites are not relevant. If you got some links from a site about kitchen appliances, however, that would be fantastic. Google knows that your two sites are related to each other, and that link will hold a lot more weight. There are numerous ways to get links pointing back to your site. This is a huge topic of discussion, and yes, we will be going into it in depth.

Make Money From Home – Step Five – Monetization

And finally, we have monetization. Payday. You’ve put in all the hard work, and you are getting a steady stream of “customers” coming through your “door”, so now you need to decide what it is you’re going to sell them. This doesn’t mean that you have to create a product (although you could, if you were that way inclined, but it wouldn’t truly be passive income then, would it?). You can sell other peoples products, or you can simply have advertisements on your site, and get paid a small amount for every person that clicks on those ads. Once again, there are many different way to monetize a website. We will be looking at them eventually, but that is a long way down the track. We have a lot of work to do before we get there. Everything I have learned has come from two well respected people in the Internet Marketing game. The first one I discovered is Grizz, who runs a few different blogs based on the subject of earning money online, the most active one is How To Make Money Online For Beginners. Don’t be put off by his resemblance to a Grizzly Bear, he doesn’t bite, and is in fact one of the most friendly and helpful people in the business. He has a following of thousands, and every post he creates on his blog creates a huge amount of discussion. A word of warning though, to get the most out of Grizz’s site, you are going to have to be a fan of reading, Grizz is not shy when it comes to using his keyboard, even though he’d be much happier with a golf club in his hand. That website alone will give you enough information to keep you occupied for many months to come, and is also a great place for networking. We’ll talk about the importance of networking in future posts, but suffice it to say that making money from home can be a lonely business, and it’s important for you to have friends in the game, not only for your own sanity, but for the good of your business as well.

As good as the information on Grizz’s site is, it is easy to spend too much time reading, and not enough time acting. If you want a more focussed approach, then one of Grizz’s close friends is a guy by the name of Courtney Tuttle. If you do a search for “Internet Marketing” in Google, Court’s Internet Marketing School will be one of the first entries on the first page of the results. This is a super competitive keyword, and his position in Google is testament to his skills as an Internet Marketer. Once again, that website is jam packed with information, all of which agrees with the info on Grizz’s site. Recently, however, Court has branched out. He is now offering up a place where he teaches literally thousands of students all of his secrets in an easy to follow, step by step approach. This site is called The Keyword Academy and it is here that I have learned everything that I know. The Keyword Academy is more than just a course, however. Once you join, you will not only have access to all the core videos that will provide you with the information you need to start, you will also be able to ask questions in the forums and interact with the rest of the community. Everyone there is super helpful and friendly, and more new people are arriving every day. The Academy is based on the subscription model. You will be asked to pay $1 for the first month, which will give you access to everything on the site. If you decide to stay after that month (and trust me, you will), the payments are $33 per month after that, but you can easily quit at any time. If you want to be successful and earning money from your own home, then this is the one thing that you cannot afford to miss. I will be covering a lot of what is taught there, but no simple website will ever match the support that is given at the Academy, and they are building on it every day.

So, that’s a bit of background on where I have received my information. I have been interested in Internet Marketing for a few years now, but only started seriously working at it 5 months ago, and I am starting to see results that prove to me that this can really be done, and it is possible to be making money from home and never have to worry about having a day job ever again. During the course of writing this blog, I will keep you updated on my successes, and I hope that sometime soon I will be able to announce the termination of my day job. I hope that you will follow me on my journey, and learn some things along the way. I need to make one more thing clear before I begin sharing what I have learned; this is not a get rich quick scheme. Don’t expect to be able to walk into your boss’s office tomorrow and tell him where he can shove his job. With hard work and persistence, you will indeed get to that stage, but it’s not going to happen overnight. I know that there are a lot of websites out there that will promise you overnight success, but every one of them is a liar. If it were that easy, then everyone would be doing it, and that’s just not the case.

In my next post, I am going to be breaking down this whole business in the simplest terms possible. There is too much techno talk and mumbo jumbo on the Internet already, and I hope that this site will allow even the least techno minded person to understand how Internet Marketing works, and how you can be successful at it. Before adding a product to your eBay account, it is extremely helpful to do a bit of research. Spending a little time searching through the eBay listings will allow you to determine if there is a market for the product you are trying to sell. You will also be able to get a good estimate of what your item is likely to sell for. Simply work out an average of what it has sold for previously. Another benefit to researching before listing is that you will be able to get a good idea of how much competition there is for a particular product.

A thing that many people forget to take into consideration is the fact that if you actually sell your item, you are then going to have to package it up and ship it off to the buyer. This takes time to do, and costs money. Depending on the item you are selling, it could cost a lot of money. Make sure you know exactly what your expenses are going to be before deciding on a price for your eBay item.

Spend a bit of time creating the description of your item on eBay. Don’t forget, you are competing with millions of other people and products all over the world, and the description is quite often the thing that will make a person decide whether to click through to your product or not. You need something original and eye catching to keep your potential buyers attention. You also need to provide people with a good description of exactly what it is your selling.

If you are new to eBay, you are going to have start off by establishing yourself as a trustworthy seller. This is going to take time, because the way eBay works, people will rate you based on the service they have received from you. Keep this in mind with not only every sale you make, but every communication you have with potential buyers. One bad review can lose you literally hundreds of sales.

Finally, make sure that the goods you are selling on eBay are of a high quality. It’s alright to sell second hand goods on eBay, but you need to make sure that they are clearly labelled as such. Your customers are not going to be happy if they pay money expecting brand new items and receive scuffed up used goods.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is “What skills do I have?”.  A lot of people get stuck at this very first stage, because they are unable to recognise just how resourceful they are. They tend to think of their skill set as being limited to what they did for a living. For example, a friend of mine was just laid off from a major supermarket chain where she was working behind the checkout. She’s interested in fending for herself, but she said to me “What am I going to do, set up a cash register on my front porch and wait for people to start handing me money?”. Of course, this is ridiculous, but I assured her that her knowledge was surely not limited to pushing buttons on a cash register.

What are you doing right now, this very instant? Reading this blog, right? What skills does it take to do what you’re doing? Sure, you need to be able to read, but you must have booted up your computer, fired up your web browser, maybe you went to Google and searched for “make extra money from home” and ended up on this site. Perhaps you’re using Firefox and you downloaded and installed it yourself. Maybe after visiting here you are going to head off to Facebook to catch up with your friends.

An important thing to keep in mind when researching ways that you can make money from home, is to make sure that you don’t fall into the trap of running down the miriad of rabbit holes that the internet offers you ove and over again. While looking around, you’ll see surveys, “get paid to” ads, get rich quick schemes, multi level marketing programs and competitions and freebies. It’s easily to get overwhelmed by all the choices out there, but we will hopefully show you that it really doesn’t have to be that difficult.

All of these activities are based around a skill set that you can use to create income. All you need is a little direction, and hopefully we will be able to point you on the right path. You’re not going to become a millionaire overnight (you may never become one), but at least you’ll be able to get through these times with the knowledge that you were able to help yourself, instead of relying on others that may not be there when the hard times come.
